Virtual meeting October 22nd 2020

On October 22nd 2020, the partners spoke about the outcomes of the Inception Meeting that took place two weeks prior. The discussion between the partners and the members of the External Advisory Board addressed fundamental questions regarding the Architecture’s Afterlife project. It highlighted the complexity and richness of the study and a need for specific objectives while leaving others to secondary roles. The partners restated that the ultimate aim of the study is to investigate the individual behind the graduates in architecture. It understands and discusses that architecture education is more interested in the individual behind the student than the teaching of a specific discipline. This aspect brings to the question of the methodology used in the study. Architecture’s Afterlife uses a grounded theory. The project is not adopting an empirical framework, but rather it tests a range of possible theories that can only really be validated through the process of a grounded theory approach. This allows the study to have the data determine the hypotheses, and not vice-versa.
